Serving Students in the Chillicothe
R-II School System

The Green Hills' area of North Missouri derives most of its economic benefits from the production of agricultural commodities such as cash crops, livestock, and forest products. For the past 20 years, the area has been suffering from economic decline due to the rising cost of production, unstable markets, loss of business, out-migration of people, and decaying infrastructure.

The Litton Agri-Science Learning Center project is focused on addressing several of these problems. The center will train students of all ages in the use and management of agricultural resources and natural resources. It will provide hands-on training in:

• agribusiness
• crop management
• animal science
• plant science
• livestock production
• farm management
• forest management
• alternative crops
• wildlife management
• youth leadership development

The project will increase local job skills by creating new management expertise and could reduce out-migration of our youth by providing new opportunities in these occupational fields. The center would also equip our young people with the necessary leadership skills to fill positions in local government, community organizations, and other groups to build and continue leadership in the Green Hills' area for the next generation.

The Litton Agri-Science Learning Center will serve all students (preschool-12) in the Chillicothe R-II School System, students from area sending schools and adults who attend the Grand River Area Technical School, as well as adults in the Green Hills' area who have an interest in farming, agribusiness, or natural resources. The Learning Center will also be available for use by all area schools and educators.
